As one of the oldest and most traditional furniture manufacturers in the world, Thonet achieved world fame with its bentwood furniture. Founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet, the company is still in family hands today. Chair no. 14 from 1959, better known as the Viennese coffee house chair, went down in design history as the first industrially manufactured piece of furniture and is still produced in large numbers today. The tubular steel furniture from the Bauhaus era, such as the cantilever chairs by Marcel Breuer or Mart Stam, are further classics in the collection. New designs and fresh new editions of the classics still make Thonet a popular design label today and regularly win design awards: German Design Award, interior Innovation Award, iF Design Award, Ausgezeichnete Gestaltung Deutscher Designer Club. 2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the design brand.
For 2021, Thonet was awarded the German Sustainability Award (for the classic "Viennese coffee house chair 214″). excellent.
