Founded in 1881 as a glass factory in the Finnish town of Iittala, the iittala brand of the same name began with blown, pressed, polished, painted and etched glassware. With the advent of modernism in the 1920s and 1930s, the breakthrough came with designs by great designers such as Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck. These years also saw the development of the guiding principle that still characterizes iittala today: Every product must have a well thought-out design and be available to everyone. The result is glassware and everyday objects that are distinctive, combinable, multifunctional and, above all, timelessly beautiful. With its own vintage service, iittala also ensures that the collections of years gone by are given a second life by their enthusiasts.
