Founded in 1881 as a glass factory in the Finnish town of Iittala, the iittala brand of the same name began with blown, pressed, polished, painted and etched glassware. With the advent of modernism in the 1920s and 1930s, the breakthrough came with designs by great designers such as Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck.
